We’ve all experienced a day where you feel like we’re just dragging ourselves along. Whether you had a rough day or night before, many people can and do experience times when they feel completely zapped of energy and like they simply can’t catch up to the demands of the day. Reevaluate What You’re Eating
When you don’t feel like you have the energy to expel through the day, the first thing that you should take a look at is the way that you’re fueling your body and giving it energy to use. This means considering how the food that you’re eating is either helping or hindering you.
Ideally, if you’re wanting to keep consistent energy levels throughout the day, you should seek to eat food that has a low or moderate glycemic index. Foods that have a lower glycemic index won’t spike your blood sugar as much, which will allow your energy levels to remain more consistent and won’t result in a sugar crash later on in the day. These foods include things like whole grains, vegetables, nuts, and healthy fats.
Get More Physical Activity Throughout The Day
While this might seem counterintuitive, the more physical activity that you get during the day, the more energized you’re likely to feel as you go throughout your day. This happens because exercise is a natural boost to your energy levels. It gets your blood moving and helps to get more oxygen through your body.
If you don’t have the time or desire to do multiple small workouts during the day, doing anything that helps you get your body moving can help. Things like taking the stairs, parking further away, taking a walk around the block, playing with your kids or pets, and anything else that helps your body move can help raise your energy levels.
Prioritize Your Sleep
Not getting enough sleep at night can also impact how much energy you have during the day.
While most people need to get between seven and nine hours of sleep each night, some people may find that they need more or less than this. By finding the right amount of sleep that’s right for your body and ensuring that you’re consistently able to get this amount of sleep, you should be able to see your energy levels stay consistent throughout the day. If you’ve had problems with this in the past, make sure you’re giving yourself time to wind down at the end of the day by turning off screens and limiting coffee after lunch.
