What are the claims against Depp?
The defamation trial for an op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018, in which she described herself as a “public figure depicting domestic abuse,” began on April 11.
Although Heard did not name Depp in her op-ed, he has sued her for trying to imply he was a domestic abuser and is seeking $50 million in damages.

Johnny Depp has filed a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard for an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018.

The case revolves around a defamation suit Depp filed against Heard in 2019 in relation to an op-ed Amber Heard wrote about domestic abuse in 2018. Depp claims the article harmed his career and that he was fired from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise just days after it was published.
Depp’s career was already in jeopardy following the couple’s public split and the abuse allegations that arose between them.
Both Heard and Depp have accused the other of physical violence, which both deny. “I never reached the point of striking Ms. Heard in any way,” Depp testified, “nor have I ever struck any woman in my life.”
Heard was allegedly violent toward him, and he described one incident in which he was seriously injured after Heard presumably threw a vodka bottle at him.
