The series American Rust was created by Dan Futterman which is based on Philipp Meyer’s novel of the same name. The show premiered on Showtime on September 12, 2021, and fans are curious to know if we will be getting another season soon.

The story revolves around a small Rust Belt town in Pennsylvania where the chief of police Del Harris takes on an investigation when the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder.

The series received mixed reactions from the viewers and critics. Despite receiving support from some of the audience, it has an average rating of 3.8/10. One comment from Rotten Tomatoes criticizing the show. It said, “American Rust’s tale of America lost is a worthy one, but despite an A-list cast it simply does not have the narrative clarity or heft necessary to do its subject matter justice.”
American Rust Season 2: Release Date
Fans have been wondering if there will be another season for American Rust.
Unfortunately, as of January 2022, the producers had announced their cancelation. On January 25, 2022, a report showed that Showtime had canceled the series and included a statement from the cable channel.
The statement reads, “We can confirm that ‘American Rust’ will not be moving forward with a second season. We would like to thank our partners at Boat Rocker, our talented showrunner Dan Futterman and the rest of the wonderful writers, and our amazing cast led by Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.”
Worry not, if the show gets adapted by other channels, we might get to see Season 2 back on the screen.

American Rust Season 2: Plot
As mentioned, there will be no American Rust Season 2. Although the first season ended with a lot of cliffhangers and there are a lot of storylines that another installment can tackle, the producers decided to end it with one season only.
In the first season, we know how the show focused on investigating Billy for the murder of cop-turned-drug dealer Pete Novick and finds himself covering up a triple homicide that he committed.
In a recap, Del was forced to kill two of Novick’s associates as well as their 87-year-old cousin in self-defense and at the finale of the first season, Del’s deputy Steve Park was suspicious of his involvement in the killings.
Viewers were looking forward to seeing answers regarding how Del would act if he finds himself in Billy’s shoes. Moreover, they are anticipating if the series will show how Novick is the real killer and that Isaac killed Novick to protect Billy.
Overall, we can say that there were a lot of stories that can be the plot for the American Rust Season 2. It’s sad to see the show go.
