Barbarians season 2 will bring viewers to the time period of 9 AD. A group of Germans are fighting off a Roman empire that is only attempting to expand into the area so as to keep the peace and maintain order.
The series is based on true events and was Netflix’s most successful German original ever (before Blood Red Sky overtook it), so it’s not surprising that the show has been given a second season. Here’s the next batch of information we have regarding what to expect from this second season…
What is the plot of Barbarians?
The plot of the series is based on the Germanic tribes’ rebellion against the Roman Empire, which culminated in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. The rebellion was led by Arminius, who, after being trained by a Roman officer, joined the Roman army as a double agent.
The first episode of the series depicts Arminius’ life in his home village, where he is in love with the beautiful Germanic girl Thusnelda, the daughter of a local chieftain. The series is based on Roman sources, including the Commentarii de Bello Gallico by the Roman general and statesman Julius Caesar.
The Commentarii de Bello Gallico describes the events between 58 and 50 BC, when Caesar waged a military campaign against the Germanic tribes in the area between the Rhine and the Elbe rivers, after being requested to do so by the Germanic tribes, led by Arminius’ father Segimerus.
The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (also known as the Varus Battle; German: der Teutoburger Wald) took place on 9 AD. It was a major battle of the Roman–Germanic wars, in which three Roman legions were ambushed and destroyed by Germanic tribes led by Arminius.

The series has been renewed for season 2, which was announced on 10 November 2020. The second season will continue to follow Arminius and his band of rebels as they continue to fight against the Roman Empire, with the Gemanic tribes joining forces with the Roman rebel Lucius, who is now fighting against the Roman Emperor Nero.
Barbarians Season 2 Release Date
A lot of people loved the concept from Netflix’s ‘Barbarians’ and with good reason. There were a lot of characters and plot twists that viewers couldn’t get enough of, which is why we’re not surprised to hear that ‘Barbarians’ will indeed be making a comeback and this time it’ll be for season 2.
The renewal came just over a month after the historical war drama debuted on the streaming service in October 2020.
The renewal of the show can be attributed to its second place rank in Netflix’s top rated shows in the United States during its peak, trailing only the 1985 blockbuster ‘The Queen’s Gambit.’
According to Deadline and official production sources, filming for the second season began in Krakow and the surrounding areas in early September.
“Barbarians” on Netflix left fans wondering whether or not there would be a second season, especially seeing as the first series concluded in 2020. However, it seems that “Barbarians” producers aren’t ready to quit just yet and will most likely release the next season sometime this year.

German period drama, the sequel to the legendary Barbarians, will return with the story of Arminius’s death. At the last minute, the germanic king revoked the orders to kill the roman envoy. In addition to this, the creators of the series have decided to show the episode of the famous battle with Varus, which will be the main event of the second season.
The battle was one of the most significant in the history of the Germanic tribes, the result of which was the defeat of the roman legions and the destruction of three Roman legions under the command of Publius Quinctilius Varus. The battle and the death of Varus became a symbol of the Germanic uprising against the Romans of 9 AD.

Tiberius (Daan Lennard Liebrenz), the youngest son of Emperor Augustus, is furious. He has set his sights on avenging his father’s death and finding his father’s remains. He is even willing to make an alliance with Arminius. But Arminius has seen right through Tiberius’ plan. The Roman Prince is not interested in making peace.
He wants to conquer Germania. He wants to conquer Germania so that he can make his father proud. And he will do anything to accomplish his goals. But how will he deal with his feelings for his best friend’s fiancée? And how will he deal with his anger at his father’s killer, Arminius?
