What Is The Pale Blue Eye About?

Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel, from which this film draws inspiration, is set at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. In 1830 a tragedy unfurled when an unfortunate cadet met his demise – hanging followed by having his heart cut out.

The academy is rocked and mystified by the murders, so they solicit help from Gus Landor, a former police detective. Seeking guidance within their ranks, Landor also teams up with a brave young cadet named Edgar Allan Poe to solve the case – quite the unlikeliest of duos!

The Pale Blue Eye reveals the early work of the author of The Raven, who seems to be in his absolute element in this chilly and gruesome whodunit long before Poe became the iconic poet of his time.

While the film is not based on actual events (though Poe did serve in the military & spent seven months at West Point), the scenes and dialogue that viewers will be treated to feel as genuine and authentic as if they were based on actual events.
