Starz’ Gaslit will be out soon, and fans are stoked to see Julia Roberts back on screen.
The series focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of a scandal in Watergate. They are starting from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.

What Is Gaslit About?
Gaslit is an adaption of Slate’s Slow Burn: Watergate podcast.
It will explore several untold stories from inside of the White House and about the Watergate scandal, which effectively brought down Nixon’s presidency.
The true story will be told mainly from the perspective of Martha Mitchell, the wife of Nixon’s attorney general, John Mitchell.
Official Synopsis of Gaslit
According to the official synopsis, Gaslit is a, “modern take on Watergate that focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal—from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.”
Watergate Scandal
The Watergate scandal is the label given to a major political scandal involving the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon from 1972 to 1974.
The scandal started from the cover-ups involvement in the June 1972 break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Washington, D.C. Watergate Hotel complex.

When is the Official Release Date of Gaslit?
Gaslit will officially be on air by April 24, at 9 P.M. on Starz and Starzplay.

Who will be part of the Cast of Gaslit?
To make things much more exciting, the cast is packed with A-listers.
Julia Roberts and Sean Penn will be spearheading the show as husband and wife.
Roberts is Martha Mitchell, “a celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell,” who’s described by the Starz synopsis as “a big personality with an even bigger mouth.”
On the other hand, Penn plays Attorney General John Mitchell, a “temperamental, foulmouthed and ruthless” man whose Achilles heel is his love for his outspoken wife and who’s ultimately forced to choose between his loyalty to her and to the President.
Other cast members to be included in the series are:

- Betty Gilpin as Mo Dean
- Shea Whigham as G. Gordon Liddy
- Darby Camp as Marty Mitchell
- Allison Tolman as journalist Winnie McLendon

It’s a big yes! Starz has already released a thrilling trailer for the series to pump up the viewers on Gaslit’s premiere this year.

You can see that the trailer begins with a voiceover introducing Martha Mitchell as the “first person to accuse the president of the Watergate break publicly.”
You may also find Roberts and Penn look unrecognizable as Martha and John Mitchell. Later on, as the trailer shows scenes of panic and paparazzi, a man can be heard stating, “that loud-mouth wife of his is becoming a liability.”
At the end of the trailer, Martha is sitting in what looks like a courtroom, being questioned on why she would risk her husband’s position.
