Fans raced to social media to praise the premiere of season one of The White Lotus on HBO and NOW, using words like “fantastic,” “iconic,” and “binge-watchable.” I mean, it was seriously AMAZING.
The good news is that a second season of The White Lotus has been officially confirmed. Here’s the scoop on the movie’s premiere date and an exclusive sneak peek at the cast in action. I can already tell that this is fantastic.
Release Date for the White Lotus Season 2: When Will It Air?
Season 2 of the show will air on HBO on Sunday, October 30 at 9 pm ET/PT. Simultaneous streaming on HBO Max is also planned. Season one will have seven episodes.
What’s the Plot of the White Lotus Season 2?
A prominent question of the first season of The White Lotus was: Which the main character will be buried alive? Whether or not a similar device will be used in this version is unknown, but the upcoming season of the anthology series, Sicily, will transport viewers to Italy (more specifically, the sun-drenched locales of Taormina, Noto, and Palermo) for another round of vacationers wreaking havoc at a luxury resort.
A brief glimpse in HBO’s sizzle reel showed that Greg, the White Lotus visitor who became romantically connected with Tanya (played by Jennifer Coolidge), is also returning, defying expectations that only the lonely socialite Tanya McQuoid would return from the Hawaii-set season. With love, we win.
Season two of Sicily will apparently explore other concepts brewing in producer Mike White’s head, whereas season one used rich tourists as a lens to analyze colonialism and exploitation.
He told Vulture he was influenced by the teste di Moro, ceramic heads unearthed in Sicily that come from mythology about a woman who severed the head of her married lover out of jealousy.
The season’s focus on sex and violence in Italy likely stems from American interest in the macho mythos of Sicily as told through mafia legends.
White intriguingly describes this season as a “bedroom farce with teeth,” as jealousy plays a central role in the tense interactions amongst the White Lotus’s volatile guests.
Who is Joining the Cast of the White Lotus for Season 2?
A fresh, equally star-studded cast will be introduced in Season 2. F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, and Adam DiMarco play Bert Di Grasso, Sr., Dominic De Grasso, and Elbie Di Grasso, Jr., three members of the same family on the road.
Also, Tom Hollander plays Quentin, an Englishman on holiday with his friends and nephew; Haley Lu Richardson portrays Portia, a young woman on the road with her boss; and Leo Woodall plays Jack, a guest at the White Lotus.
Cameron and Daphne Babcock, played by Theo James and Meghann Fahy, are a married couple on vacation with Ethan and Harper Spiller, played by Will Sharpe and Aubrey Plaza.
Who From the Original Cast of the White Lotus is Coming Back for Season Two?
One of the most beloved characters from the first season of The White Lotus is coming back! Jennifer Coolidge’s Season 2 return was announced in February. According to Variety, she’ll be returning as Tanya McQuoid, Lu Richardson’s employer from the previous season.
The second season will take place in Sicily, and in July, HBO published a teaser trailer that included Jon Gries, who played Greg in the first season.
