The Plot of the Lord of the Rings
Set in the Second Age of Middle-earth is the series. And that is thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and the novels.

When is the Official Release Date of The Lord of the Rings?
Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, has finally announced the release date. “The journey begins September 2, 2022, with the premiere of our original ‘The Lord of the Rings series on Prime Video,” she said in an interview.
The showrunners intention was to air the series back in December 2021, but the COVID pandemic disrupted that.
Yet, there was always going to be a significant wait for the show to premiere. So, it’s finally official! The series will debut on September 2, 2022. New episodes will drop weekly after that.
