About My Brilliant Friend
My Brilliant Friend is a drama series based on Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Series.
HBO’s show My Brilliant Friend has already come out with two seasons. The second season which has eight episodes running is an adaptation of the second book, The Story of a New Name.
For fans wondering if the series will return for a third installment, the answer is yes!
My Brilliant Friend Season 3 Plot
The third season is an adaptation of the third book from Lenu and Lila’s story, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay.
Viewers are expected to see that this season crossed into the 1970s when Italy was enduring the politically destructive years of Lead.
In the third installment of the series, the story continues with friendship, divided by class and location but united by mutual love and intelligence.
The main character, Elena, is doing very well for herself after earning her degree and publishing her first novel.
On the flip side, Lila has stayed in Naples. She left her abusive husband, took their child, and worked a difficult sausage factory job.
As depicted in Ferrante’s third book, Lila will face ongoing issues with sexual harassment, and she and Enzo will continue to develop their relationship over time.
Recap of Season 1 and 2
Both women, in different ways, are pushing against the boundaries of a life of misery. They both navigate the opportunities that have opened up, yet they are still very much bound to each other.
Stylistically, the first two seasons took their cue respectively from Neorealism and the French New Wave.

Who will be the cast of My Brilliant Friend Season 3?
Based on the third book in the series, Those Who Stay and Those Who Leave, the narrative jumps forward to when the main characters are already adults. This could mean an entirely different casting.
But worry not, Margherita Mazzucco and Gaia Girace return as Elena and Lila, and now their characters are older than they are!
Luchetti mentions the main characters, “There is a visible maturity in their expressions, in their attitudes. We have made the most of this wonderful enrichment that Gaia and Margherita bring, and also other characters.”

Official Release Date of My Brilliant Friend Season 3
The stunning HBO adaptation of the Neapolitan novels will return soon for another season.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi said, “The fact that viewers and critics alike have continued to embrace Elena and Lila’s story makes it all the more gratifying, and we thank the entire team led by Saverio Costanzo for their outstanding work on the second season. We cannot wait to tell the next chapter of Elena and Lila’s lives and friendship.”
According to sources, the series will be out on HBO/ Crave on February 28, 2022, and will be comprised of eight episodes.
