The Northman: Story
Based on the story of Amleth, The Northman is an epic, historical, action-thriller movie with a lot of action. Amleth, a Viking prince, goes on a quest to get revenge for the death of his father. Norse mythology has a big impact on the movie.
In the year 895, King Aurvandill comes back to the island of Hrafnsey after conquering other countries. He meets up with his wife, Queen Gudrn, and his son, Prince Amleth. Heimir, Aurvandill’s fool, leads a ceremony for Amleth to take the throne. Amleth’s father and son both take part.
But his father, Aurvandill, is killed by Amleth’s uncle Fjolnir, who takes Queen Gudrn in a palace coup and cuts off the head of Aurvandill. Amleth barely gets away from Fjolnir’s killers, and he flees by boat, swearing revenge for the death of his father.
He meets Olga, a Slavic sorceress when he is looking for a way to get his revenge. He and Olga fall in love. Amleth and Fjolnir fight a fierce duel in which Amleth is stabbed to death and Fjolnir’s head is cut off.
As Amleth lies on his deathbed, he sees Olga holding their children and telling him that it’s time to let go. Amleth is carried by a Valkyrie through the gates of Valholl in the last scene (Valhalla).
