The Patient Plot
The series follows therapist Alan Strauss, who is held prisoner by patient Sam Fortner. It is revealed that Sam is a serial killer with an unusual demand for Alan: to stop his urges. To survive, Alan must get through to Sam and figure out the root of his problem. However, getting answers won’t be easy as Sam refuses to address critical topics like his mother, Candace.
Alan is forced to analyze his life when he’s alone and captive, memories of his former therapist Charlie rushing back. Not only does Alan have to come to terms with repressed personal issues like the recent death of Beth-his wife–but also the pain felt from losing contact with his religiously devoted son, Ezra. Over time, Alan not only realizes how severe Sam’s mental illness is but also has a lot to mend to do in repairing relationships within his own family.
The Patient Cast and Crew
The prominent cast members of the series are as follows: Alexander Strauss will be played by well-known actor Steve Carell in the main cast. Domnhall Gleeson, another renowned actor who will star alongside Carell in the series, portrays Sam Carell, Alexander’s patient/serial killer brother. Alex Rich, Linda Emond, David Alan Grier, Andrew Leeds as Ezra Rich, and Laura Niemi as Beth Rich are some of the individuals featured on the program. David Alan Grier portrayed Charlie in the role of Alan’s previous therapist.
The original air date for “The Patient” was set for October 2021 on FX. However, due to the recent pandemic, the show has been pushed back with no new air date yet announced. Fields and Weisberg create the series. They are also executive producers alongside Carell, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu, and Chris Long.
