The War Between Ukraine And Russia

The gap between the fiction that characterizes diplomatic statements and information on the ground has never been wider.

Thus, the War Between Ukraine and Russia continues.

While all sides have spoken of the need to finish the battle, there is no sign that it is nearing its conclusion.

And this is because, at its heart, the opponents’ question should not be when the battle ends but on what terms the battle ends and who is best positioned after the battle.

Certainly, the war Between Ukraine and Russia conflict has reached a tipping point, with the stakes high for all parties — Ukraine, Europe, and the United States on the one hand (who share common, if not identical, interests), and Russia on the other.

Each believes that by maximizing their benefits and tilting energy stability in their favor, they will be in a better-negotiating position when serious negotiations begin. This also implies that the chances of escalation are much higher now than at any other point in the war.

After taking flight from Kyiv and its surrounding areas in April, Russia became its focal point in the south and east, which unquestionably marked a setback, if not a failure, for Moscow.

While Russia’s initial conflict objectives were demilitarization and de-Nazification, which were once interpreted as Moscow wanting total defeat of the Ukrainian military and a change of guard in Kyiv, neither of which occurred, Russia’s goal now appears to be consolidating control over Donetsk and Luhansk, separatist-controlled provinces over which Moscow has exercised de facto control since 2014.

It also wishes to expand its territorial features beyond the two provinces in the rest of the Donbas region; take over Mariupol, a role it has succeeded in, albeit at the expense of severe humanitarian suffering; and care for Crimea’s east.

Russia now aims for a divided Ukraine, with one phase deepening its integration with Europe and the more geographically close phase combining with Moscow.

Consequently, the war Between Ukraine and Russia are still on going.

However, encouraged by its victorious retaliation, Ukraine and the West, tempted by the prospect of weakening Russia, as US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin put it, believe they can not only prevent Russia from succeeding in this latest phase of the the war Between Ukraine and Russia conflict — but also, potentially, prevent Russia from launching a similar one.

As a result, US President Joe Biden has requested an additional $33 billion from Congress to strengthen the army and provide financial assistance to Ukraine. It has resulted in the US promising to provide Ukraine with weapons and defense equipment, which the US was initially hesitant to do.

It resulted in an increase in G7 sanctions against Russia on Sunday. It was also reported earlier this week that the US provided information to Ukraine that assisted the troubled country in pursuing Russian generals and sinking the Moskva, Russia’s flagship in the Black Sea.

According to recent reports, the White House is disappointed that its previously disciplined messaging, which revolved around supporting Ukraine but in a calibrated way to avoid escalation, has been called into question.
