HBO’s Watchmen surprised everyone and was one of the best shows on television this year, keeping pace with the network’s other successes in 2019.
A “remix” of the original comic written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, showrunner Damon Lindelof and his team of writers successfully told a story that carried on its legacy while avoiding being an adaptation.
HBO recently aired an epic, nine-episode miniseries titled Watchmen that was originally created as a movie. The series isn’t a direct adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name but instead covers very similar territory in a new story set 100 years after the nuclear war that took place originally.
While some aspects were changed in order to adapt it to the small screen, all the essential elements were there. There were two additional characters and obviously they did away with certain events that take place in the comic and you could argue on how well they pulled off certain things here, there, and everywhere but I personally found this Watchmen to be great entertainment.
Although we may never see another season due to it being so expensive (each episode cost somewhere around $25 million), let’s go over all the things we’ve heard about a potential Season 2.

Will there be a second season of watchmen?
There is no official word on whether or not a second season of watchmen will be produced, but it seems very likely. The first season of the show was released in 2019 and was a huge success.
If a second season is produced, it is likely that it will follow the same storyline as the first season. However, it is also possible that new characters and storylines will be introduced to keep things fresh for viewers.
Damon Lindelof’s HBO series Watchmen was based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ famous graphic novel, and the writer-producer says if there is one, he will not return for the second season. Alan Moore in an interview with Yahoo! Movies said “I will not be involved in creating a television adaptation of Watchmen. I trust that HBO will find someone who can do it justice. The novel was very special to me, I hope that it will be to others.
The new Watchmen showrunner Lindelof has revealed that it is possible to make a second season of the acclaimed HBO show. Lindelof told Crave that he’s had discussions with HBO about making another season, but that it’s not likely to happen. “We would want it to be the same people, and the same experience,” said Lindelof. “It would have to be a very different story.
The Expected Plot Of The Watchmen Season 2
The last episode of ‘Watchmen,’ titled ‘See How They Fly,’ is less a cliffhanger than an unclear finale to the series. Angela is suffering from her husband’s demise, Doctor Manhattan.
Simultaneously, she falls into a life-changing predicament in which she may or may not acquire her late husband’s abilities. As she is about to discover, the screen fades to dark as the credits begin to roll.
If season 2 does come to fruition, we may finally learn whether she acquires Dr. Manhattan’s powerful abilities or not. Discussing his choice to leave the conclusion unresolved, Lindelof told Vanity Fair: “We opted to fade to black where and when we did for a very particular reason that I’m not interested in interrogating.”
He subsequently said, “These nine episodes were intended to stand alone, but it does not rule out the potential of further Watchmen.”
Originally intended to be a limited series, ‘Watchmen’ season 1 left plenty of opportunities for season 2 to enter and advance the tale. However, whenever it occurs, it will undoubtedly have to live up to the sky-high expectations set by supporters after a great season 1.
Watchmen season 2 Expected Cast
Fans would love to see Regina King, Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons and their other cast members come back for another season, but as the creators have mentioned it’s a self-contained story which is why they might well not continue the journey.
However HBO has no official confirmation that they will make more episodes with a different set of characters and a completely new storyline.
