WhatsApp is working on a new update that will change this, according to WaBetaInfo. WhatsApp is working on adding multi-device support to phones, which will allow you to use the same account on multiple devices.

According to reports, WhatsApp will refer to the new feature as a “Whatsapp companion mode device” and will require users to “register the device as a companion.” You can use the same account on multiple phones by scanning a QR code with your primary phone.

Last year, the company released a beta feature that allows users to use WhatsApp on multiple devices without relying on their primary smartphone. Users are logged out of their primary device’s WhatsApp account when they use WhatsApp on a secondary device. A screenshot also demonstrates that when users begin using WhatsApp on a secondary device, all data from the primary device is deleted.

Whatsapp companion mode, as shown in the screenshot below, allows users to connect their device to their phone’s registered WhatsApp account. Users are logged out of their current WhatsApp account when they switch to Whatsapp companion mode.

However, doing so will delete all locally stored WhatsApp data, including messages and media. The screenshot also shows that users can use Google Drive to back up the data in their current account.

The feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in the WhatsApp beta for Android v2.22.10.13. Users will be able to use WhatsApp on multiple devices at the same time, according to the publication.

Although this feature is available for a variety of devices, users cannot use WhatsApp on multiple smartphones at the same time. With Whatsapp companion mode, this might be possible. More details about WhatsApp Companion Mode will be released in the coming days.

In other news, WhatsApp, like Instagram, is developing quick status replies. With this feature, users will be able to send quick reactions to WhatsApp Status.

As an interactive way to respond to WhatsApp status updates, the feature will be available. According to the report, WhatsApp is working on eight emoji reactions that can be sent from the interface where users can view the statuses of others. The screen guides users through the process of linking a secondary device to their account.

  • Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  • From the menu or settings, select Linked Devices.
  • Point your phone at the screen and scan the code.

You can also install the app on an Android tablet and use it as a secondary device for your WhatsApp account. It is currently unknown when users will be able to use the feature.

According to a report published earlier this month, WhatsApp is working on a subscription plan for WhatsApp Business users that will allow them to connect their WhatsApp account to up to ten devices.
