All About Death Note

Death Note Season 2 : Is It Happening?

Death Note is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.

The story follows Light Yagami, a teen genius who discovers a mysterious notebook, the Death Note itself.

The Death Note belonged to Shinigami Ryuk, and it grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages.

The series follows the story of the main character’s attempt to use the Death Note to carry out a worldwide massacre of individuals he deems immoral.

His goal in doing this is to create a crime-free society. Death Note ran in Shueisha’s Manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2003 to May 2006. It has 108 chapters that were collected in 12 tankōbon volumes.

The anime adaptation has 37 episodes produced by Madhouse and directed by Araki. It debuted back in October 2006.

Later on, the series was also released as a film and had three live-action films as of this writing.

The plot of Death Note

The series follows a high school student in Tokyo named Light Yagami. He finds the Death Note, a mysterious black notebook that can kill anyone if the user knows both the target’s name and face.

Five days after discovering the notebook, Light is visited by Ryuk, the Death Note’s previous owner. Ryuk, invisible to anyone who has not touched the notebook, reveals that he dropped the notebook into the human world out of boredom and is amused by Light’s actions for which he will use it.

Death Note Season 2: Release Date

Ever since the release of the first season of Death Note, anime fans have been waiting for the renewal of the series.

There are a lot of speculations going around that Death Note 2 is already being produced. However, until this writing, we have not heard any official announcement if the Death Note will have a second installment.

Many have wondered why Death Note has not been renewed for the longest time despite its popularity. We are guessing this is because of a lack of material.

The Manga on which the series is based contains only 108 chapters, and the first season had already exhausted the source material.

Now that they are talking about the second installment of the Manga series, we might also expect to see Death Note Season 2.

Moreover, in February 2020, a standalone Death Note: Special One-Shot written by Ohba and drawn by Obata was published. Meaning it could be viable source material for an anime sequel.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

We cannot assume the details of the plot as there is no official; announcement. Our best guess could be the adaptation of the Death Note: Special One-Shot.

However, if it ever happens in this adaptation, there would be a giant leap in time setting and a new antagonist and plot.

If the new possible source will be Death Note: Special One-Shotthe story will follow the return of Ryuk to the human world and how he approaches Tanaka, a middle-school student, and offers him the Death Note.
