Inventing Anna is an upcoming American series produced by Shonda Rhimes, that was based on a “true story of a total fake”, Jessica Pressler’s captivating New York article entitled “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People”.
Netflix first released the first trailer of the series last November 2021 and is set to premiere the first episode on February 11, 2022.
What’s Inventing Anna about?
The series is set to be premiered on Netflix and describes its plot as, “A journalist with a lot to prove investigates the case of Anna Delver, the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene – and stole their money as well.”
Rhimes and the rest of the production crew focused on showing and exploring the “dark funny love-hate bond” that Anna and Vivian (reporter) will form during the trial.
Who is Anna?
Shonda Rhimes, the producer of the series centered and based the plot of the story on the infamous con artist Anna Sorokin alias Anna Delvey, who was the main character in the 2018 article How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People.
Sorokin alias Delvey is a 28-year-old woman posing as a rich German heiress who scammed many members of an elite party scene to secure loans for a lavish art club. Her story had captured the attention of most people in New York and even reached different people around the world.
Sorokin was convicted in April 2019 of attempted grand larceny, three counts of grand larceny, and a misdemeanor charge of theft of services, and currently serving time in prison.
