The development of True Detective Season 4 is in the works, and fans are stoked to hear the news.
Viewers have been anticipating the release of the fourth installment of True Detective, and HBO finally announced that the production is on the way.
The first season of the series received acclaim from critics and earned high ratings for HBO. Meanwhile, the second season was more divided, although the show still maintained high viewership. As for the third season, it received positive reviews but saw a drop in viewership.
What do we expect for the fourth season?
Here’s what we know so far about True Detective Season 4.
The Plot of True Detective
True Detective is a crime drama anthology series that first aired way back in 2014.
It follows the story of various law enforcement officers as they attempt to solve complex mysteries while struggling with their demons. Nic Pizzolatto created the series and aired its third season in 2019.
The series is being broadcasted on HBO, and each season of the series is structured as a self-contained narrative that employs new cast ensembles that follow various sets of characters and settings.
The story is set in California and focuses on three detectives from three cooperating police departments. A criminal-turned-businessman investigating a series of crimes they believe are linked to the murder of a corrupt politician.
The show goes on in three seasons, solving mysteries and crime cases.

True Detective Season 4: Release Date
Ever since the last release of the third season, viewers had been silent about whether or not there will be another season following True Detective Season 3, not until recently.
HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys remains vague about the show’s future, but he does suggest that something is already in the works.
So, we still have to wait for the official announcement on when the show will premiere True Detective Season 4 Episode 1. Assuming it is already in the works this year or is ready for production, we might have it in late 2022 or early 2023.
But then again, it is best to wait for the official update.
True Detective Season 4: Cast
Sadly, we do not yet have the official list of the cast to return for the fourth season of true detective.
Although I have made a run through of the cast who were part of the first three seasons.
The first season cast included:
- Matthew McConaughey as Detective Rustin “Rust” Cohle
- Woody Harrelson as Detective Martin “Marty” Hart
- Michelle Monaghan as Maggie Hart
- Michael Potts as Detective Maynard Gilbough
- Tory Kittles as Detective Thomas Papania
As for the second season, the cast was joined by:
- Colin Farrell as Detective Raymond “Ray” Velcoro
- Rachel McAdams as Detective Sergeant Antigone “Ani” Bezzerides,
- Taylor Kitsch as Officer Paul Woodrugh
- Kelly Reilly as Jordan Semyon
- Vince Vaughn as Francis “Frank” Semyon
The season 3 cast is led by Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali (Detective Wayne Hays) along with Carmen Ejogo (Amelia Reardon), Stephen Dorff (Roland West), Scoot McNairy (Tom Purcell), and Ray Fisher (Henry Hays).
We can assume that True Detective Season 4, an anthology series, will likely have a completely different roster of actors for its new stand-alone plot.
Hopefully, the cast will also have a star-studded list of members.
True Detective Season 4: Official Trailer
Unless the show releases the official date of the premiere, we might have to wait for a few months before seeing the official trailer of True Detective Season 4.
But since the series is already in the works of filming season 4, we might not have to wait long enough to see it back on screen.
Keep updated and posted to see if the trailer has come out yet.
Are you excited? Us too! Let’s hope to see True Detective Season 4 back on screen as soon as possible.
